Miscarriage - A Few Extra Details

*Trigger Warning* Mentions of pregnancy loss

The night the bleeding started it went from light to pretty heavy very quickly and I quickly figured out that simply wearing a pad wasn’t going to work. I basically just sat on the toilet as it came gushing out, but after a while that became uncomfortable and I was also starting to feel light headed and nauseous. So I laid in the bathtub and alternated turning the shower on to feel some sort of relief. Meanwhile Nic had called the on-call nurse because we were worried that I was losing too much blood - I mean, from our point of view it was a lot. And to be honest, she was a b**** and not at all helpful or compassionate. Nic had taken my temperature at one point - we can’t remember if it was super high or super low - and she laughed and said that wasn’t possible. She also said to Nic that if I was conscious, I was fine and to wait until morning to go in. After going in the next morning and the doctor’s said it was all passed, we were glad to be in the clear - but the events the next morning proved them wrong. It was then after experiencing what I now know to be contractions that I passed the rest of the tissues. It was after a few months that I learned from a patient that I should’ve been given the option to have a ‘catch basket’ when I chose to miscarry naturally that would have given us the chance to have something to either bury or cremate. And I really do wish I would’ve had that. Especially since the first miscarriage was so early and I didn’t have anything from that either - it would’ve been nice to have something.
