Curriculum and Early Learning Tools

Curriculum and Early Learning Tools

This post I am just going to be sharing links to all the things we have used in our first years of homeschooling, from curriculum to puzzles, books and extras.

Shapes and Patterns Puzzles

We used this to work on shape recognition and still use them now, only we use them more freely to see what we can build without pictures to look at. I also use them with Mr. Orange for creating patterns.

Letters and Numbers Tab Puzzles

We used these as our first tool of learning when Mr. Blue was around 2yo as a foundation for recognizing numbers and letters and beginning to work on letter sounds as the picture behind each letter starts with that letter (although some of the pictures aren’t the best for letter sounds).

Colorful Bear Counters

These we used for play for learning and so much more, we have had them for about 5 years and they are in constant use. We first used them for fine motor, using the tongs to grasp and pick up and place in a cup. Then we used for counting and sorting into colors. Then we moved onto creating and copying patterns.

Wipe Clean Pen Control Workbook

We used this as the first ‘workbook’ for our older 2. Easy to take on the go, and can be used multiple times. A fun way to work on pen control.

https://playingpreschool.com

This is the website for the playing preschool, I would also highly recommend following the creators Instagram and website https://busytoddler.com She has a newsletter that you can subscribe to for so many helpful ideas for kids activities, parenting tips, and so much more. You can read more about why we love it in my blog post of how we got started. (Not free).

https://www.blossomandroot.com

This is the curriculum that we used for Kindergarten, if you read in my blog post I talk more about it and what we liked about it but also how we didn’t love some of it. It is a secular curriculum if that is something that is important to you or not. (Not free).

https://www.goodandbeautiful.com

This is the math that we used alongside Blossom and Root for Kindergarten year. This is also what we are using for Math and Reading/Language arts this year, we are on 1st grade for math and K for Reading/LA since I felt we needed a re-do after not loving the way Blossom and Root went about the phonics portion and the selected literature was just boring for my son and therefore it was hard to keep him engaged. The best part about this curriculum is that is entirely free if you want it to be. I just download the PDF and print and bind it myself or just hole punch and put them into binders.

How Great is Our God Devotional

Alongside our regular school work I try to read a daily devotional, usually before bed. This is one we have finished and it was very good, I do think our boys were a bit young for it - so it will be one that we will try again. Some of the questions were just a little advanced for their knowledge.

Indescribable Devotional for Kids

This is another one that we will pull back out at another time when the boys are a little older, but still good. This one specifically was also just a bit too wordy that it lost their attention.

Devotional for Preschoolers

This was one that was gifted to one of the boys and it has been a favorite. Age appropriate questions to help keep them engaged and just long enough for their attentions spans.

Secret of the Hidden Scrolls - Book Series

And last but not least for this post, this is the series that I am working through as my daily read aloud to the boys. Think Magic Treehouse meets Bible stories, time travel adventures, with a hint of Narnia. They are so much fun and my boys are absolutely captivated and cannot wait until the next day to find out what happens next.

Next time I will be sharing links to all the different tools that have helped ME to be able to do what we do and things that I think are absolutely necessary, as well as some of the fun things that aren’t super necessary but help to make learning fun.
