Journal Series - Day 1
Day 1 of us being in the hospital for Mr. Green's open heart surgery.

If you’re just joining, I am doing a little journal series of our time in the hospital when Mr. Green had his open heart surgery to fix his heart defects that were discovered in utero. These are the thoughts, feelings, and emotions I had while there and the different situations we were in. I journaled every day we were there so I could look back and remember. Even typing up this first one, I had tears in my eyes during specific parts and it still felt as if we just went through this - it’s still so fresh. Thanks for reading!
XOXO, mischief managing momma.

We woke up bright and early - 5:15am and arrived at the hospital a little after 6 and got checked in. We got into the pre-op room and Mr. Green was checked over one last time and given the all clear. Then we waited for about an hour and a half. We prayed over him and sang praise songs to him while we waited - with one dance party, music supplied by Queen of course. We video chatted with big brothers and my parents so they could see Mr. Green before it gets too scary for them. Then around 8:15am they came to get him and we gave him our last kisses and hugs. It was one of the hardest things I think I’ll ever have to do. We got into our waiting room and hung out for a little bit while I pumped and then we went for a walk around the hospital and walked up and down all the stairs. While on our walk they called to say he did great going under anesthesia and were just starting the incision. That was at 10:04, so we went back to our waiting room. At 10:26 they called to say they have put him on bypass, so we decided to turn on a movie while we waited and just relax. At 11:40 they called to say he’s off bypass, doing great, and they were closing up. The relief I felt is unmeasurable. And the peace I have felt during this time I know has only come from God. Right at noon, the surgeon came in to tell us the surgery as a whole went great and he was able to preserve Mr. Green’s pulmonary valve and hopefully won’t need any more surgeries. Praise the Lord! We continued to hang out for a little bit while I finished pumping and then the surgical nurse came and got us at 12:40 to take us up to the CCU waiting room to wait and see Mr. Green. At 2:30 they FINALLY brought us back to see him. He’s mostly been sleeping due to the meds since he has a trach tube in still, but he has moved around a little and opened his eyes when we’ve talked to him.
